MODIFICATIONS OF SUBSIDIARY NORMS OF BUÑOL ARE PROGRESSING

The two modifications commissioned by the City Council of Buñol (Valencia) to the firm AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP are progressing well. The modifications, designated M13 and M14, address different objectives and have different scopes. M13 affects structural planning and requires environmental assessment and approval by the regional government, while M14 is limited to detailed planning and requires municipal assessment and approval.

Without exceeding the limits established for planning modifications by current legislation, M13 proposes a combination of objectives in order to optimize the effort undertaken by the promoting administration, that is, the Buñol City Council. This same philosophy of combining objectives characterizes the strategy of M14, although its scope is much smaller.

The M13 project has already passed the first phase of the environmental and territorial assessment and has a Scoping Document, paving the way for the next planning phase, on which the AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP team is already working. This new phase will involve studying all sector-specific reports, with particular emphasis on the damage caused by the DANA storm of October 29, 2024, which severely impacted some areas of the municipality.

The M14 project, being resolved through the simplified environmental assessment procedure, is progressing much faster, and the city council already has the initial version. Therefore, it is possible that by the end of January 2026, it could be submitted for public comment and consultation.

Both modifications to the Subsidiary Norms represent a giant leap forward for urban planning in Buñol, a complex territory due to its natural and human-caused circumstances. Its planning is an exciting challenge, given the extraordinary opportunities it offers, should Buñol know how to seize them.
