As part of the parliamentary processing of the draft Land Law for the Valencian Community, architect Víctor García Gil appeared before the committee debating the bill—an appearance proposed by the Third Vice-Presidency and the Department of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory, and Recovery. In his remarks, he provided a concise overview of the reasons justifying this legislative change, as well as the current state of urban planning in the Valencian Community. He noted that the existing system is characterized by rigidity and ineffectiveness, which discourages the development of urban planning instruments and drives young professionals away from the sector.
The draft Land Law for the Valencian Community—currently under debate in the Valencian Parliament (Les Corts) following a rigorous process of public participation and technical and legal review—could serve as the catalyst needed to revitalize urban planning in the region. It aims to address the challenges facing society in this area more effectively, eliminating the inexplicable delays that currently plague urban planning procedures.
Following architect Víctor García Gil’s presentation, spokespersons from the various parliamentary groups posed a series of compelling questions that would have sparked an enriching debate, had there been sufficient time.
